Scripture Copying

Through this season of staying at home I have been learning many new things about how to improve my devotional time in the mornings. It is such a joy to spend time with the Lord and learn from the truths written in the Bible and through prayer! The Word is alive and is changing hearts and minds...and we have the chance to read it every day! Amazing!

"For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable." -Hebrews 4:12-13

There are few ladies I love following on social media and learn so much from them about faith and life. Alyssa Bethke has been a favorite of mine for many years and recently I have started receiving email devotionals from her. In one of the recent emails, she wrote about scripture copying and all of the spiritual fruit it produces. I read scripture all of the time, but there is something special about physically copying down the words on paper. I set a timer for ten minutes and copy as much as I can into my notebook. I have incorporated this practice into my devotions and it has made such a difference in how I receive and understand the Word. Sometimes after I have finished copying, I read what I have written for the day aloud and write notes about my thoughts in the margins. There is something special about reading the scripture aloud and hearing the words that many believers have heard for hundreds of years. I hope you will give this practice a chance and see how it improves your walk with the Lord!

Another girl that has been a great inspiration to me lately is Cambria Joy. She is such a delight to watch and learn from on YouTube and Instagram. She talks about reading scripture and learning from it to change from the inside out. Her other focus is on fitness and honoring the bodies we have been given. If we have the ability to move, we should be grateful and become strong! I love her perspective on seeking the Lord above all else and listening to our bodies and making them strong to accomplish the good things that the Lord has set before us. I have learned so much about cultivating good habits that produce spiritual and physical fruit through time with the Lord and eating well with exercise.

I hope you find some inspiration and cultivate new habits that spur you on toward Jesus, loving Him, and living in joy!

sprinkles + sunshine,
Callie
